Cargo & Marine Surveys


Our Cargo and Marine surveyors have general knowledge about how to deal with a survey , no matter what type of cargo it concerns. They will not only ascertain the nature and extent of the damage but will also carry out (nautical) investigations in order to arrive to the most likely conclusion as to the cause of the damage. Further, they are professionals in communicating with interested parties, such as with cargo owners, counter surveyors, local authorities, etc in order to try to mitigate the loss best possible.

Cargo theft investigations are being carried out on a frequent base, eventually with the support of a private investigators (after consultation with principals).  Warehouse / pre-risk inspections are being carried out by order of underwriters who would like to consider the risk to avoid storage of goods at an unsafe place.

The Interlloyd technical team of marine and engineering surveyors is built on the specific knowledge and experience of its members, which include the necessary specializations to cover the complete range. Project Cargo Consultancy


This type of loss prevention services can only be carried out by surveyors being well educated and experienced in the world of shipping of Project Cargo, Heavy Lift, Oversized and Critical Items. Interlloyd Averij has the in-house expertise to offer these services. Already for many years we do receive weekly appointments from insurance companies and from logistic service providers (carriers, freight forwarders, etc) based on which we believe it is to the continued satisfaction of our principals. We can provide drawings and calculations, eventually in co-work with an independent Naval Architect, and so assist in issuing a stowage plan for a most safe and also economical method of lashing and securing. The same team is also able to issue Towage Certificates.

Claims handling


For loss adjusting and claims settlement services, we act as independent average claims agent between the claimant and many transport insurance companies around the world.

If not insured, or for claims below the deductible, our team of Claim & Recovery agents can try to lodge the claim at a responsible party – See our Recovery service. 

In case of General Average, the team is able to offer a full service to insurers and insureds.

Recovery


Our recovery specialists have many years of experience in recovery claims from responsible parties.

With the in-house knowledge about national and international transportation and handling conditions, eventually supported by local lawyers within the network, the team is achieving successfully recovery results throughout the years.

Good to know: It is of our great concern that claims will not become time barred and we therefore will arrange for the extensions, if required. This service is being offered on a No Cure No Pay base, except for the appointment of lawyers (only after consultation with principals). This team also assists cargo parties in obtaining a guarantee from a P&I club in case of a potential large claim while the vessel is still in discharge at the port.

International Survey Instructions


For claims abroad, where a survey is required, we can appoint a capable local surveyor from our network.
This is convenient and sometimes a must for Dutch insurers.

We coordinate and supervise surveys wherever required in the world by way of appointing survey companies within our network.

By doing so, we ensure that our principals will finally receive a survey report, which fulfils to their demands, as if the survey was carried out by one of our own surveyors.

A customer case study

Challenge

During the discharge operation of liquid chemicals from a tanker vessel into a shore tanks, the tank exploded (roof was blown off) with serious product damage and consequential losses.

Approach

Nautical, technical and product specialists within our team of (Marine) surveyors assessed the extent of damage and investigated the cause of damage on behalf of cargo parties interested.
At the same time, our claims, recovery and legal specialists were involved to secure guarantees and to advise our principals on the legal aspects.

Result

The team of Interlloyd Averij realized loss mitigation measures, a swift claim settling and maximum recovery of the claim, all for the benefit of cargo parties interested.
